The gift of the word has been given to women who are not afraid of the rapture of turning themselves inside out, writes Jackie Wang in ALIEN DAUGHTERS WALK INTO THE SUN: AN ALMANAC OF EXTREME GIRLHOOD.

Much like photography, girlhood is a rapture of sorts, an experience of what it means to live this life as a woman and be seen by women closest to you. From vintage clothing photoshoots to Icelandic camping trips, Elise Young has carried her film camera throughout everyday life in order to document the women in her life. This project is deeply personal and one she carries very deeply to her heart. Through these photographs, she wants to thank the women connecting the interwoven web that supports and uplifts her, in the hope that these images offer up some sort of small witness to their friendship.
